Fall Work Day, October 2007

It was a great day for working outdoors!  One of our projects was to clean up a bank of stainless steel cat cages to replace old metal shelving in the shelter.  We're using the cages for storing linens (cage doors keep the cats from accidentally using the linens for things other than sleeping!).  We keep one cage empty for isolating sick kitties who are receiving treatment.

Another major project was installing gutters on the north side of the shelter -- lots of ladders and a few brave souls to climb them (that's Chris Schoon up high, John McLaughlin supervising from below).  Unfortunately, the December ice storm put too much weight on the brackets, and all this hard work will need to be redone this spring.  Bummer!

Adding laminated panels in Room 3 -- they are much easier to clean than bare walls.

"Workday, shmurkday!  Just give us our chow and a pillow!"  they meowed when we were all done.  The kitties may not appreciate the loose-laid vinyl flooring, but we sure do.  It's a breeze to sweep and mop, compared to the sealed concrete which was beginning to peel.  New laminate wall panels and rearranged furniture completed the Room 3 makeover.
