Biography:        Gato was found laying in the road in Cedar Rapids following some unknown trauma.  His right eye was swollen shut, and he was bleeding from his mouth.  Turns out his upper jaw was broken, as well as the rim around his right eye, which eventually had to be removed.  It was touch and go for awhile, since he wasn't eating well due to the jaw trauma.  But several surgeries and lots of pain medication later, he has recovered nicely from his physical injuries.  He's eating fine and now we're working on socializing him a little more.  Gato is rather timid, but will let you approach and pet him if you do it slowly.  He's not real social with the other cats in his room, but neither is he aggressive.  We think with time Gato will gradually come out of his shell and be an essentially "normal" one-eyed cat.  His rescuers went to great lengths in getting him promptly treated and probably saved Gato's life -- he really deserves a forever home now.

Special Needs:  Residual effects of head injuries; ear polyps; recurrent dermititis
